The Inter-University Centre for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE), in association with the K.R. Narayanan Chair for Human Rights and Social Justice, Mahatma Gandhi University, is organising a workshop on “Migration and Ageing in Kerala” at 10:30 AM on 14 March 2025 at the IUCSSRE, Convergence Academia Complex, Mahatma Gandhi University Campus, Kottayam.
The keynote address on “Impact of Migration on the Elderly” will be delivered by Prof. S. Irudaya Rajan, Chair of the International Institute of Migration and Development and former Professor at the Centre for Development Studies. The session will be chaired by Rafeek Ravuther, Executive Director, Centre for Indian Migration Studies.
This workshop aims to explore the critical social and demographic challenges arising from Kerala’s unique combination of large-scale migration and an ageing population. Discussions will focus on evolving patterns of care, support, and social well-being for the elderly.
